Principal's Letter - June 16, 2017: End of the Year.

Posted on June 16, 2017 at 5:15 PM

Dear Budlong Families,

With only two more days to go, we close out another school year, and let us celebrate the accomplishments of our students. From singing and dancing in Budlong Meets Broadway, viewing the Bud-ing Artists Gallery, competing in spelling bees, attending awards assemblies, conducting science experiments, travelling to college visits, to walking in the graduation processional, 2016-17 gave us memories that will make us smile for years to come.

Thank you to all of our parent groups and parent volunteers. Your help and input is greatly appreciated. We cannot do all we do for our students without you! We will be hosting one final meeting of the year for FOB, Friends of Budlong, so please do check the website for location, date, and time. I encourage you to attend and meet current and prospective Budlong families.

Below is information regarding registration for next year. Have a great summer, and I look forward to seeing everyone in the fall!

Dear Budlong Families,

Spring is finally here, well, maybe... we hope the weather brings more sunshine soon, but until then, please be sure to send your students to school dressed in layers so that our students can take advantage of good weather we do get, and go outside for recess.

It is teacher appreciation week! Ms. Bruno and I have had a blast visiting all the classrooms to say how much we appreciate all the staff, and all that they do every day, for our students and community. Please join me in saying thank you!

And our friendly neighbors at Vineyard Church brought a wonderful doughnut mid day treat to us yesterday. There's no better way to snack on a Wednesday. Thank you :)

Yesterday, today, and Friday are our annual Olympic Days. Yesterday, our 3rd-5th graders participated, and today it's the kinder through 2nd grades. My team, The Nakayama Ninjas, are fierce competitors :) On Friday our 6th-8th graders will compete. Be sure to send your child to school in his team colors, with a lunch and water bottle.

Today is the last day of BEST, our after school program. Please do plan accordingly.

I know we have all heard the good news that school will continue through June 20, as originally scheduled. Therefore, please be sure to mark these important end of the year dates on your calendar:

Principal's Letter- April 20, 2017

Dear Budlong Families,

I hope you were able to join us today as we went around the world and back, to Budlong! Today was our annual International Day Celebration. Yummy food, beautiful dances, and so much information was shared about countries all over the world. With the immense diversity here at Budlong, our students are exposed to a variety of cultures all the time, and our international day highlights that beauty; it also allows us to learn more about one another and have fun doing so. Thank you to all our families who helped with presentations and demonstrations today. A very special guest joined in the festivities this afternoon, Mr. Ivan Anchev, Bulgarian Consul General. He enjoyed presentations by our students highlighting Bulgaria and Kyrgyzstan. We were honored to have him visit and continue to promote the CPS' initiative of the seal of bi-literacy in Bulgarian.

Yesterday was our Report Card Pick-up Day. Thank you to everyone who was able to attend. Viewing the student art pieces and projects makes me proud of the work we do at Budlong. Remember that conversations between our teachers and families take place continually, too.

We are still selling yearbooks. If you didn’t purchase one yet, please see Ms. Yu as soon as possible to buy one for $25.

Help us reach our goal of 98% attendance by making sure students are here on time every day. Announcing fourth quarter attendance incentives:

* luncheon for students showing the most improvement in their attendance

* luncheon for students with 98%+ attendance for the year

We need volunteers to help us recognize all our students at these luncheons. We also need volunteers for Budlong under the Stars on June 2. If you would like to help with either event, please contact Friends of Budlong President, Kathy Borner, at [email protected]

Arturo Velasquez Institute is hosting the Spring DREAMER and Family Education Forum Fair on April 22. Please see the attached flyer for more information.

I want to thank our neighbors at Vineyard Church. They spent their Saturday beautifying Budlong J

Lastly, AM outdoor line up starts next week, so please dress your child in layers as the Chicago weather is often unpredictable. Students should be lined up outside by 8:10.

Have a great weekend
